"Ours was the first revolution in the history of mankind that truly reversed the course of government, and with three little words: 'We the people.' 'We the people' tell the government what to do, it doesn't tell us. 'We the people' are the driver, the government is the car. And we decide where it should go, and by what route, and how fast. Almost all the world's constitutions are documents in which governments tell the people what their privileges are. Our Constitution is a document in which 'We the people' tell the government what it is allowed to do. 'We the people' are free."

The Future of the GOP and Conservatisms in NH

Is Conservatism Dead?

To paraphrase from Mark Twain – “The story of our death has been greatly exaggerated,” which would best describes the GOP, and in particular Conservatism in 2008. There are many that would love to write Conservatism’s obituary, and if it wasn’t for the pesky fact that Conservatism is the cure for what is ailing our government and society, they might get away with burying us. Nevertheless, the question has been ask and now is the time to provide an answer.

On December 19, 2008, from 9:00am until 10:00am, there will be an on-air panel discussion regarding the future of the GOP and Conservatism in NH. Join us at 9:00am, on 106.1 FM, WSCA Community radio for Right Here, Right Now.

December 12, Show Canceled Due To Climate Change

For those that tried to tune in to listen to Right Here, Right Now on December 12, we are sorry for the inconvenience. WSCA was knocked off the air for all of the 12th, and most of December 13, due to climate change in the form of a freezing ice storm.

We hope all of you fared well during the storm. I am currently in an area still dealing with the affects of the storm, so my communication to the outside world is random at best.

The Top 15 Conservative Songs

Right Here, Right Now - The Top 15 Conservative Songs

We decided to kickoff Right Here, Right Now with a little fun. On December 5, 2008, we introduced RHRN to WSCA listeners by counting down the top 15 Conservative songs (according to Jeff).

Song and Artist/Comments

15. Wouldn’t Be Nice – Beach Boys
A pro-marriage song. Key lyrics:

“Maybe if we think and wish and hope and pray it might come true / Baby then there wouldn’t be a single thing we couldn’t do / We could be married / And then we’d be happy.”

14. The Icicle Melts - Cranberries
Talks about the value of life and the devistation of abortion. The lead singer, Delores O’Riordan, is extremely pro-life:
“It's not good for women to go through the procedure [abortion] and have something living sucked out of their bodies. It belittles women. Even though some women say, 'Oh, I don't mind to have one,' every time a woman has an abortion, it just crushes her self-esteem smaller and smaller and smaller."
(source: You! June/July 1996)

Key lyrics:
“There’s a place for the baby that died; there is a time for the mother who cried.”

13. Pride – U2
This songs talks about the strength of mankind to resist tytanny. Key lyrics:

One man caught on a barbed wire fence One man he resist (communism)
One man washed on an empty beach. (D-Day –oppression)
One man betrayed with a kiss (Jesus by Judas)
Shots rang out - Martin Luther King

12.American Solider – Toby Keith
Commitment to country and self sacrifice. Key lyrics:

“I don't do it for the glory, I just do it anyway,Providing for our future's my responsibility,”
“Beside my brothers and my sisters I will proudly take a stand,When liberty's in jeopardy I will always do what's right,I'm out here on the front lines, so sleep in peace tonight.”

This song reminded me of a statement made by Ronald Reagan – “You and I have the courage to say to our enemies, “There is a price we will not pay.” “There is a point beyond which they must not advance.”

11. Heroes – David Bowie
A love song about a man and a woman divided by the Berlin Wall during the Cold War. Key lyrics:

“I can remember / Standing / By the wall / And the guns / Shot above our heads / And we kissed / As though nothing could fall / And the shame / Was on the other side / Oh we can beat them / For ever and ever.”

10. Small Town – John Mellencamp
John Mellencamp is by no means a Conservative, but this song touches on many Conservative values. This song is clearly an ode to traditional Midwestern values (fly over country). Key lyrics:

“No, I cannot forget where it is that I come from / I cannot forget the people who love me.”

9. Chicken Fried – Zac Brown Band
This is one of the few new songs on the countdown, and its great because it speaks to the simple truths that make America great. The Zac Brown Band reminds us of the value of life and respect for traditional values. Key lyrics:

“And my house it`s not much to talk aboutBut it`s filled with love that`s grown in southern ground”
“See the love in my woman`s eyes, Feel the touch of a precious child, And know a mother`s love”

8. Invincible – Pat Benatar
This song talks about standing by our moral convictions. The song should remind us of the higher calling that rest with America, and speaks to the mindset of a solider. Key lyrics:

“Stand up and face the enemy…we will be invincible!”
…and with the power of conviction, there is no sacrifice…it’s a do or die situation.”

7. Wonderful - Everclear
Talks about the devastating affects that divorce has on the family, and in turn our community. The song is sung from the child's point of view; a point of view that is all too often forgotten or ignored. Key lyrics:

“I don’t wanna hear you say / That I will understand someday / No, no, no, no / I don’t wanna hear you say / You both have grown in a different way / No, no, no, no / I don’t wanna meet your friends / And I don’t wanna start over again / I just want my life to be the same / Just like it used to be.”

6. America Beautiful – Ray Charles
This song still sends chills up and down my spine. There are some in this country that have chosen to look at all of America's perceived negatives, ignoring the simply truths that represent the real America. America the Beautiful reminds all of us of America's greatest and Gods blessings. Key lyrics:

“O beautiful for spacious skies, For amber waves of grain, For purple mountain majesties Above the fruited plain!

“O beautiful for heroes proved In liberating strife. Who more than self their country loved”

A side note on this song: I learned to appreciate this song even more when I heard it sung by hundreds of Germany's while I was attending a local festival in the 1980's; very moving.

5. Citizen Solider – Three Doors Down
Citizen solider was written especially for those that serve our country as members of the National Guard (the original militia). The song talks about a personal sacrifice for the greater good of the community. Key lyrics:

“On that day that day, when you need your brothers and sisters to care…I will be right there.”

4. The Taxman – The Beatles
The Taxman is the athem for property rights. The Taxman talks about the oppressive nature of wealth distibution. Key lyrics:

“If you drive a car, I’ll tax the street / If you try to sit, I’ll tax your seat / If you get too cold, I’ll tax the heat / If you take a walk, I’ll tax your feet.” The song closes with a humorous jab at death taxes: “Now my advice for those who die / Declare the pennies on your eyes.”

3. Salvation – The Cranberries
This song just has so much energy and a positive message that it is hard to ignore. The song lyrics are values based, and talks about the personal oppression of poor lifestyle choices. Key lyrics:

“Inject your soul with liberty, it's free”

What a great line!

2. Won’t Get Fooled Again – The Who
This song is an oath that swears off naïve idealism once and for all. Key lyrics:

“There’s nothing in the streets / Looks any different to me / And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye. . . . Meet the new boss / Same as the old boss.”

1. Right Here, Right Now – Jesus Jones (Our Theme Song)
Conservatives believe that we are but one link in the long chain that represents history, and that our country is only as strong as the weakest link. This song reminds all of us of the importance in remembering our place in history. Key lyrics:

“I was alive and I waited for this. . . . Watching the world wake up from history.”

there you have it, the official Right Here, Right Now Top 15 Conservative Songs. Feel free to send songs that I can add to the list, maybe next year we will do a Top 50 Conservative songs list.

Peace
